The Affordable Care Act recently turned 1 year old. The Affordable Care Act or Obama’s Health Care Reform Plan includes provisions that prohibit insurance providers from rejecting clients for pre-existing illnesses. The law also provides discounted medication for some seniors, offers tax incentives for small businesses to provide employee healthcare to employees, and widens the opportunity for coverage to more people by 2014.

With all of the talk about the high cost of major medical insurance, we often forget to mention that the IRS allows this as a deduction for many Americans figuring out their federal taxes. In theory, health insurance premiums are deductible, though not everybody will be able to take it on their returns.
Note that I focus on major medical insurance. However, these rules should apply to qualified long term care insurance, dental insurance, etc. But also note that disability or medical insurance under an auto insurance policy do NOT apply to this discussion.

One common problem in the US is how to pay for maternity care with no health insurance benefits. Some pregnant women with this problem may actually have health insurance, but have a plan that does not cover maternity care.
Many individual health insurance policies, for example, do not cover routine maternity care. Other people who may need to figure out how to pay for a pregnancy are self-employed, contract workers, employed by a company with no group medical benefit, or unemployed.
